Physical Health

Healthy nutrition is fundamental to a child’s healthy development.  Nutritious childhood diets help build healthy bodies and also create habits that last a lifetime.  Kids who eat poorly are at risk for a host of physical, academic, behavioral, and mental health problems.   Families, schools, and other child serving systems all have an important role to play in helping to ensure that our children and youth get adequate nutrition every day.

In addition to good nutrition, regular physical activity has been shown to have a signficant impact on both cognitive and academic development in children.

The benefits of exercise and participation on team sports include increased self confidence, improved sense of life quality, more focused concentration and attention, improved academic performance, decreased depression and anxiety, and reduced delinquency.
